  1. EVERY STUDENT SHOULD READ FOR AT LEAST 20 MINUTES EVERY NIGHT!

  2. There will be written homework every night except Friday.

  3. Homework is important and will count as part of a grade. Neatness is important. Messy work will not be accepted.

  4. Parents should go over homework with their children every day. Parents, please initial every assignment. That lets me know that you have seen it.

  5. A zero will be given for each missed assignment. (Please let me know if there is a legitimate reason why homework was not done).

  6. If a student is absent, he/she will have time to make-up any missed assignments.

  7. Each student has a Take Home Folder. Please check it daily and send all notes, forms, etc. back to me in it.

  8. Homework assignments will be written down daily in their Planner. Worksheets should be returned in the Take Home Folder. All other homework should be written and left in the subject folder where it belongs.

Welcome To Third Grade Letter

August 7, 2017

Dear Parents,

I am happy to have your child in my 3rd grade class this year. I am looking forward to a great year. I want to thank all of you who have sent supplies and returned enrollment forms. If you have not sent supplies or returned forms, please do so this week.

Room Parents/Volunteers: Please let me know if you are interested in being a room parent to help plan and prepare class parties, being a chaperone for field trips, and helping with special classroom projects or assignments.

Absences: If your child is absent from school please remember to send a written excuse the day he/she returns to school. If an excuse is not received within 3 days, the absence will be unexcused. Remember that school begins at 7:50 and those students arriving after 8:00 A.M. are tardy and must be signed in by their parents at the office.

Discipline and Homework Policies: I have included letters to you concerning these policies. Please go over them with your child. There is an attached form for you to sign and return. Your child writes homework down each day from the board in his/her Homework Planner. I will sign off on the homework assignments. I always go over homework assignments and directions everyday so your child should know what to expect each night. Please check this Homework Planner each night.

We are participating in a school-wide Positive Behavior System that focuses on acknowledging and rewarding good behavior. The three major behavior traits are referred to as the three R’s: Respect, Responsibility, and Resourcefulness

Progress/Conduct Reports: Your child’s graded work and practice work from the previous week will be sent home each week. Please go over the papers with your child, sign, and return. Daily conduct grades are sent home on a calendar in the Planner. Please be sure to initial the conduct calendar each day. Additional notes will be in the Take Home folder. Progress Reports with grade averages in each subject will be sent home after the third and sixth weeks.

Addition/Subtraction/Multiplication Facts: Each student has been given a copy of their addition/subtraction and multiplication/division facts. Please begin working with your child to memorize these facts. The addition and subtraction facts should have been mastered in first and second grade. Work with your child to understand that subtraction is the reverse of addition (fact families: 5+4=9, 4+5=9, 9-4=5, 9-4=5). Flashcards are very helpful and can be bought at Wal-Mart or the dollar stores. Timed tests will be given on addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts on Fridays. Please work every night on these facts so that the answers are automatically recalled (no finger counting).

Supply and Project Fee: Our third grade class Supply and Project Fee is $10.00. This money is used for special project materials.

Also, we are collecting Box Tops for Education again this year. When shopping, please look for products with the Box Tops for Education label. Cut the labels and send those to school, and we can redeem them to purchase needed school items.

Please contact me at 432-3500 if you have any questions or concerns. My conference time is 11:05 -11:25. I am looking forward to getting to know you and working with you and your child this year.

Thank you in advance for your support,

3rd Grade Teachers
